Introduction. Glad to be here!

Hello everyone,

i haven't posted here on the nest but I used to post on The knot and now I am mostly posting on The Bump. I have a 5 yr old Morkie( Maltese/yorkie) who is my lil angel and am excited to be part of this board!

We just had a lil scare on Wednesday when Bowie ( my dog) stepped on a bee and got stung. He got completely lethargic, pood and peed on himself and was silently crying! He wouldnt move. I was terrified as I did not know if he was allergic, however I knew the symptoms were not good and so we rushed him to two vets, both were closed! He started to act normal, but I could tell he still wasn't fully himself. After he threw up,we took him to his vet and they gave him fluids, benedryle and a steroid. He was sleepy the rest of the day, but woke up his happy playful self yesterday. Anyone experience anything like this? It's so scary when our fur babies are hurt or sick, I always feel so helpless.

  • Welcome :)

Our boxer licked our hands once, after we ate some lobster - her face immediately started swelling, and all of her white spots turned bright red. Per our vet, we gave her some Benadryl and went to the ER vet. She was fine after she took the Benadryl. They just sent off some lab work and kept an eye on her at the vet for a couple hours. But it sure was scary!  We make sure to wash our hands really good after handling seafood now, as well as any time of food in the "seafood category"..including after we've gone fishing. Can't ever be too safe!

  • Welcome to the board!

Please read the FAQs in the board header. While cute, "designer" dog names (like "morkie") are detrimental as they make people think your dog is an actual breed, when it's really just a cute mixed mutt. This leads to poor breeding practices as people demand the latest "designer" dog, contributes to pet overpopulation, and therefore to pets being euthanized in shelters every day. Just call your pup what he is: a maltese/yorkie mix.

Thank you for your opinion, but I'm calling him a Morkie because that's what he is. I don't need a lecture on breeding practices and shelters. You don't have to like the name.
