Mother...ugh!

Ever since I got married (2 months ago) my mom has been angry with me....over everything! My mom and I are really close and usally talk everyday, but when i call her to just talk about my day she seems...upset. Ive asked her multiple times what is wrong and she swares nothing. This week is my birthday and I have always planned a dinner with friends and a dinner with family. thats the way its been since i was 18. now she wont speak to me because she is not invited to my friend dinner occasion, and said "shes too busy" to come the even planned for family.

I am the youngest in the family...is she having seperation issues? any other newlyweds out there experienced this with their families??

  • This too shall pass.  Let your mom know the date she's welcome, and don't play into the drama.  It sounds like she's having a hard time letting go and is taking it out on you.  It will blow over I'm sure...I would continue your life as normal and ignore her temper tantrum.  When she realizes she can't manipulate you to do what she wants, she will stop.  Good luck!

  • Thanks! I should also mention she is getting divorced from my father after 32 years of marriage. Wedding planning was miserable...trying to not throw my happiness in her face...while she went through a tough time in her life. my mom has always been slightly emotional and has a tendancy to snap at nothing. I will just assume its one of her bad days....and hope for the best :)

I wish this was the case with my mom. She had major issues letting go. Still does.

It sounds like her divorce may be playing into some of her emotions. Maybe y'all can spend some extra time together just the two of you?
