I need to get my read on!

My kids are going to pass me up if I'm not careful.  DS2 has been reading The Iliad (long version) for school - I don't even think I ever finished it.  They'll continue with The Odyssey and then Shakespeare's Julius Caesar.

I'm suddenly feeling pressured to download some classics.

Re: I need to get my read on!

  • That's quite the commitment.  I read those, but I can't remember any of them.  Waste of time.

ETA:  waste of time for me, that is ;)

  • The good news is that most classics are free to download, lol.

  • I would be most excited about Julius Ceasar - although in college I deconstructed The Odyssey for one of my advanced lit classes and ended up really enjoying it.

Todd may have to cover the math stuff in Coop's life, but mom will be all about reading along with him for the classics!

I'm actually looking forward to his final project for this book.  He picks several characters & themes and makes a newspaper with articles on them.

  • Ugh, The Iliad is looooong and not too interesting. The Odyssey is shorter and much better though, so if you want to read something with him, that's what I'd go for! JC is definitely the suckiest Shakespeare play that I've read. Sad

  • Thanks for the recs - I'll try Odyssey and just avoid the JC discussions altogether.

I decided I need to be prepared for the next conversation with my 11 year old.  He stumped me by talking about how Achilles could have prevented disaster by not giving into his rage, and wondered if he really changes or not.  (I have no clue since I never finished it.)

Of course, I immediately thought of the rage & vengeance in the Star Wars story line, because I.am.a.dork.
