This scentsy stuff.

Pricey, huh? For candles?

I have a couple of cousins selling it now, so I was checking out the catalog. Whew.

  • I do like them though.  And have found the wax scents cheaper at like Hobby Lobby.

  • All I know about is that there are no fewer than 10 women on the mom's board I go to who sell it.  I've been considering starting to sell Rodan + Fields.  My friends who are selling it are making big bucks.  But then I think, direct marketing?  eeeyaaah.

    I've now got:

    Stella & Dot

    Arbonne

    Scentsy

    BeautiControl

coming at me on the regular... sigh.

Yeah, I hear you.  I haven't ever seen BeautiControl, but instead I get Pre Paid Legal Services, Pampered Chef, good ol' Mary Kay and Shaklee thrown into the mix.  Oh, and that stationery company.  I can't remember the name.

  • The only time I get anything Scentsy is when my bff, who sells it, gives it to me for cheap or free.  I do like the stuff though.  I have two big warmers and two plug-in warmers in my house.  I love the grapefruit scent and the clean breeze - it smells like fresh laundry.

Are they really making big bucks? Or are they just making it seem like they are? It's MLM, so the big goal is to entice others to come in under you.

  • BeautiControl.   *shudder*  I had a friend who sold it and I thought it was junky stuff.  When I ended up not buying tons of stuff at one of her parties she got huffy and said, "I guess I'm not getting those new khakis..."  Well okaaaay then.  Have fun in your old khakis.  I'm not buying expensive crap when I get can something better for $6 at Target.

The idea of being a salesperson for one of these companies gives me hives.  I would never make any money.

This makes me think of Office Space.  "You could have as many as four people... UNDERNEATH you."

But yeah, I don't know if everyone's making big bucks.  But the one good friend I have who does it has been doing it for maybe a year and a half now and has 90 people working for her.  So she's making very good money.  I was surprised at how much.

    Haa. Great flick.

But seriously. Are you prepared to be really super annoying and bug everyone you know? I have a friend who is doing this. I love her, but she is making me crazy with this crap. It's expensive! I can't buy as much as she wants me to buy! And I have no idea how you get 90 people working for you unless you invest a lot of time, money, and effort into recruiting.

At any rate, your money-makin' friend is an aberration. Be careful. You may be fabulous at this and every bit as good as she is, but most people in MLM make very little and plenty lose money as well.

  • Whenever another friend starts selling MLM stuff, my base reaction is akin to how I'd react if someone joined a cult. Oh, how tragic. I thought they were smarter than that. ::nose wrinkle::

  • I feel like all my friends are selling either Scentsy or those Thirty-One bags/purses/etc.

The Thirty-One stuff can be cute, but I am in school and broke, so they know not to harass me about it. :)

Ha, me too! I act happy for them while silently judging. I don't know anyone who's been successful once they've exhausted their circle of friends.

My MIL knows someone who sells Thirty-One and has hosted a couple of parties.  I learned not to say "Oh MIL, I like your bag!" because she will buy me one.  Or buy me three in different patterns.  I have a lunch bag that is monogrammed like I'm a 2nd grader bringing lunch to school!  I like the makeup bag but I seriously do not have any more room in my house for one. more. bag.

  • I do like the Scentsy stuff. I have two warmers on the main level of my house, and I bought a bunch of their holiday scents. I like them and they make me happy, but I will also say that even with fresh scent cubes in the warmers, I haven't had a single person walk into my house and say, "wow, your house smells really good! what is that?" I know it sounds silly to even think about stuff like that, but for the money that I spent on them, I was hoping for some kind of positive feedback. So I'm going to enjoy the rest of my holiday scents for my own personal enjoyment but I really don't know how much more I'm going to buy once those scents are gone.

And I agree, generally these companies can be pretty obnoxious. I'm all for people trying to make money but it gets pretty awkward when a friendship turns into a constant sales pitch.

  • I sell it. I try not to shove it down anyone's throat and I mainly just sell it to get free product and a few extra spending bucks :) I really like the scents. The warmers are pricey, but the bars, etc. aren't too bad, and they last a long time.

  • Read my blog about Rodan & Fields and how the consultants exploit Facebook and use these over-enthusiastic, manipulative tactics to get people interested in joining!  They mostly focusing on recruiting "business partners" to buy a $995 kit (which consultants receive a commission from of $100 or more) and do not really care about selling the product.
