Pumpkin Patch

Can you recommend your pumpkin patch in San Diego?  Where have you gone and what have you liked about it, or where do you not recommend going?

Re: Pumpkin Patch

  • We went to Pumpkin Station in Del Mar. It's right across from the fairgrounds. Having come from the Midwest, where you actually go out to the fields and pick your pumpkin, this was not a "traditional" pumpkin patch. Instead, it offered a shaded tent area, full of pumpkins and decorative gourds for sale, and then a very large area of rides and activities for small kids. The rides aren't cheap; each one is $3. Some are better than others. My kids enjoyed the bounce house. FYI: If you pick up a copy of San Diego Families magazine (it's free, and you can find them around at different grocery stores, McDonald's, etc.), the October issue has a coupon on the back for a free train ride at Pumpkin Station.

I've never been to Bates Nut Farm, but friends of mine swear by it. Supposedly, it's more of a traditional pumpkin patch, where they actually grow them on-site. I think I might try that one next year.
