Anyone here widowed?

I joined another site, a young widow community, but then I thought, "I wonder if The Nest has a place for widows"... I have been on The Bump for the last 2+ years (TK/TN before that) but now my situation has changed quite a bit.  Just wondering if there are any other ladies here who might be like me.  I know it's kind of a long shot; not many become widowed in their 20's.  But... "hello" nonetheless.

Car accident on July 20.  I'm not sure how much detail you want but there was a farm tractor driving in the right lane of the highway without flashers or any other kind of "slow-moving vehicle" warning.  It was hauling a piece of farm equipment (a sprayer).  There was a car in the left lane kind of behind/next to Matt and he didn't have time to avoid the tractor.  The tractor was going 25mph and Matt was going the posted speed limit of 70mph.  The tractor driver had minor injuries.  Matt was taken to the trauma center and died just over an hour after the collision.

  • I'm so very sorry for your loss.

I know of at least one other widow who has posted here a few times. Can't remember her handle, though.

    Good grief!
  • I am so sorry for your loss... welcome to the board and I hope you find this a place that you feel comfortable visiting and posting.
  • I'm so sorry for your loss.

There is at least another widow on the board but I don't remember her name.  While we may not have experienced a death of our spouse, we are here for support.  I hope you stick around.

  • I am very sorry for your loss. I do not know of any widows on the board, but a friend of mine lost her husband when they were young. They also had a 6 month old and teenage twins at the time.

    I hope you stick around.

  • I'm sorry. Glad that you are here and hope that you stick around. There are a few widows but I can't remember ages.

  • I'm sorry for your loss...there are a few widows who post here now and again...trying to remember their names...MixedBerry, maybe?  And a GreyEyes or something of the sort?  I could be getting people confused, though.
  • I'm so sorry for your loss. We're here for you.
  • I am sorry for you loss. I know of one widow. I do think it is mixed berry. She has older teenage sons I believe.
  • I, also, am so sorry for your loss.  I know there are a few widows that post on TN boards (including this one), and are in the various stages of grief/starting over.
    This is my siggy.
  • I'm also so very sorry for your loss.

I echo everyone else, that there are a handful of widows on TN scattered across the boards (MrsMc08 or something like that on Pets I believe?).

But as we're all in a process of starting over, you're more than welcome to come and share here anytime. Don't feel that you're not welcome or anything. We're all at different places with different experiences.

This is me. I was widowed 13 months ago.

  • I should say, I was widowed at 26. My husband had turned 27 two weeks earlier. It was sudden and I had no warning at all. I still don't know exactly how it happened. My situation is complicated by an ailing mother that I care for, 2 extremely broken dogs and 4 jobs. I am very open about it all, feel free to ask any questions.
  • That really stinks.  How are you doing?  Do you feel like you have a new normal yet?

  • I'm very sorry for your loss, and as others have said, I hope you stick around this board for support!

random note: I just read your blog & history- I also went to GVSU! I loved GR and sometimes wish I would have stayed after I graduated! I enjoyed reading your blog and all of the memories you have with your husband! welcome to the board.

  • I'm so sorry to hear of your loss.  The Single Parent board on the bump has a few widows I believe.  FTR, I think your siggy picture is beautiful.

  • I've been widowed since Feb 2010, after 15 years of marriage. My husband died of cancer.I am so sorry for your loss. I cannot imagine the challenges you are facing with little ones, and such a sudden, unexpected loss. Hugs to you and your little ones.

When you say "young widows" community, do you mean ywbb.org? (I'm MixedBerryJam there, too).

Remember, one foot in front of the other. Just keep doing that. (((Hugs)))

  • Sorry for your loss.  I live north of GR - but hope you have a great support community in your current hometown!
  • I just read your blog and the news article. The hospital that he was taken to, my sister worked there for 2 years (she just moved). Also, all my family is from the state where you just moved back to.

I am so sorry for your loss. Please use this board as we all support each other here.

  • I read your blog and started following. Thank you for sharing your story. I hope you can find a home here with us, and while some of us aren't widows in the traditional sense we have experienced some similar feelings. Even if we don't have advice we're here to listen and support you.
  • I am so very sorry for your loss. I had a good friend lose her husband in a similar way about four years ago. She was 23 and had two kids at home. Watching her go through what she did was heartbreaking. *Hugs*

I feel okay.  Being around family helps.  My in-laws have taken me and the kids in so not being on my own is my saving grace.  Our home in NC is up for sale so I'm just here in Northern Mich. but ILs' house is also up for sale here because we are all going to move back to Rockford, where we from originally, where Matt is buried, etc.

I have plans in place to go back to school (hopefully this winter) and essentially start over!  If my house sells before ILs, then I will buy a house and if their house sells before mine, they will buy a house, lol.  We will probably live together for a while.  They are a support to me and our kids are a great comfort to them.

  • I'm so sorry for your loss. I don't post often, but am also a widow. My husband Brad was killed in a car accident in January. We didn't have children, or pets at that time, or a house..We had been together four years, married for four months when he passed and were both 26.

I stayed with my IL's until I was able to get myself back on my feet. It was a blessing and a curse, but I am glad they took me in. I don't think I would be where I am at emotionally had it not been for them.
