Re: Hey Look! It's Finally Friday!

  • On MSN today, there is a video story of a lady that donated 100k worth of food to her local food back that she scored doing to extreme couponing.  Seeeeeee Tiffany, it's used for good sometimes!
  • As I said yesterday, I wasn't real thrilled about DH's restaurant choice for date night last night.   We left giving it a "5"- not great, but not terrible.  This morning I am giving it a "0" because I was sick all night.

    That sucks! Feel better.

Brianna - Good for her but this bothers me too though. She is taking that stuff from the shelves leaving people who actually need those things to feed their families without. I have noticed by reading coupon forums that 90% of the donators admit that they do it for the high of the free stuff and then the donation is just a bonus. Their attitude is that the early bird gets the worm and everyone left without is just SOL. A lot of the donators also write off this donation at the value of the items - when they didn't spend anything on them.

WHAT?!  That kills me.  I don't know how anyone actually has that thought process to be that shady about "donating"

    Hustlers be hustlin'.

  • I was watching Extreme Couponing the other day and saw a lady that donated a lot of stuff. Some of them have the mentality of sorry about your luck if you can't get something because I bought them all. But a couple said they call the store ahead of time and order the product, so they don't wipe out the shelves.

Sara - Where did you eat so I never go there?

  • My DH is the worst influence ever. He tells me last night he wants to go on vacation in July, to which I reply that I will be in class. He then tells me he thinks I should take the rest of the summer off and start class again in August. Bad influence!

My co-worker brings her daughter to work more days than not and the daughter feels like she needs to come and sit by me. This makes it very hard to Nest. It's annoying.

Is everyone still in for Brides Against Breast Cancer? I was scheduling a visit to DH's parents and he wanted to go that weekend. I told him we would have to go the following weekend as I had something to do with the Nest girls. :)

    LOL!  I needed that laugh.

Mrs. Lynch-  It is called Grill 1709 in Keller. Or as I have been calling it this morning..Grill H-E-Double LL.

  • I know he is well liked, but I'm not digging Bruno Mars on the Today show. There is something about this "Rat Pack" vibe that rubs me the wrong way.

    Ehh, maybe I'm just old.

  • Matt went to register for school yesterday and apparently he is not a resident of TX since we moved back in June so even though its been a year its not a year from the census date (march 25th). UGH

That sucks so much. The out of state college laws confuse me. We want to bring in new talented people from other areas but we charge them so much to go to school they don't leave their home state. Seems counter-intuitive.

I'm not sure this is totally accurate.  I know that if you donate food, you can write it off at the value of the food donated, however, I think that you have to provide documentation proving how much you paid for it.  I could be wrong - this is just my understanding as to how donations are written off for tax purposes.

  • Well we knew he would need to be here a year but we thought a year from when he enrolled or the semester started not the census date so now we either wait until spring semester or we pay out of state tuition, which I am not sure we can afford.
  • What if Mat took online courses back in Nebraska to tide him over?  Or would that screw the residency issue up?
  • Jaymi,

I will ask him to look into that option.  Matt is just pissed and I am worried about how all this is going to pan out because he needs to finish school before I can start.

  • I still don't like it.    I'm especially peeved at the couponers for cleaning out the entire shelf of the only razors I like a week or two ago.    I didn't want the sale or the discount, I just wanted my stinkin razors!!

  • It is official.  I get to start looking for a car!  I know some of you ladies would be elated but I have no idea what I want.  DH also told me last night that the price of used cars are increasing so there may not be much difference between new and used so that is something else to take into consideration.  We are in no hurry so I would like to save some more money before taking the plunge.  The last time we went shopping, I narrowed it down to the CRV (and I'm pretty sure that's what we'll end up doing) but then we decided to buy a house instead :)

Sooo.. we went to our follow up appointment with the specialist this morning, and thankfully everything is looking good with the baby. The baby is weighing 8 ounces and measuring at 18 weeks and 2 days, so 3 days ahead. :)

The only negative news is that I have a cyst on my ovary that apparently caused some internal bleeding. The doctor is not too concerned at this point and thinks it should go away on it's own in a few months, and if not, then we have to take action. I am trying not to think about that right now and just enjoy the fact that the baby is doing great!

Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers! :)

I assumed it was not ethical, but it is what a lot of them are doing. It really frustrates me to see people cheating the system like that.

Regarding the cysts - I have them all the time and 99% of the times that we have monitored them they have gone away on their own and left behind no trace that they were even there before. I will pray that yours is the same!

  • Yay Kathy I am so happy for you, DH and baby onion that everything is going well.

  • About the donations... most donations are "fair market value" so I can see how someone can construe that to mean "normal selling price" - even though I don't think that's right.  As a taxpayer, you have the burden of maintaining your documentation of donations - it's not filed with the tax return, and will only become an issue if you're audited.  Just my .02 - please don't take that as tax advice.

Yay, Kathy!  I'm so glad to hear you got a good report!

I walked in and my boss told me if I'm sick, to go home.  I feel much better, but still have a runny nose and sound awful (I slept with my mouth open so I'm hoarse).  I'm staying, at least for a while.  But I'm keeping myself confined to my cube.

This morning, I had a nearly-awful experience on the escalator.  A little side pocket on my rolly-bag was open, and it hung in the side of the escalator (not the steps part, just on the side at the bottom before it starts moving).  I didn't realize until I was on, so I was running backwards down it like a kid at the mall trying to get to it to unstick it.  Luckily this nice guy came and saved me - he just unhooked it from where it was snagged - and I was okay.  I was mortified, but he was really nice about it.  And to make it worse, there were two girls behind him just staring at me open-mouthed.  I can't tell if they were making fun of me or not.
