Riverside Moms? Parkview vs. Riverside Community

Hi Girls!

I've never posted here (I post on the August 2011 board) but thought I might ask if anyone has any information about Labor/Delivery at Riverside Community vs.  L/D @ Parkview.

I don't know which hospital to pick!!

Re: Riverside Moms? Parkview vs. Riverside Community

  • I delivered DD at Corona Regional but she was transferred to the NICU at Riverside Community - Corona Regional doesn't have one.  We liked the hospital and NICU a lot.  They took excellent care of her and treated us really well.  I've had other people tell me they really liked Riverside Community as well for L&D and their NICU.  I haven't heard anything about Parkview.

  • Sorry no advice (I went with a midwife in Chino) but just wanted to say your babies guess date is my daughters birthday!
  • We toured both and ended up deciding to go with Parkview. We had a very good experience there and will most likely deliver there again if we do not go the home birth route next time around.

    Reasons for going with Parkview:

Dad is allowed to stay the night, but Community does not allow this.

I was attempting to (did) go natural. I was told the nurses at Parkview were more open to a natural birthplan. My nurse was awesome!

I felt Parkview was more personal. Community, I felt like a number when we did the tour. Might be totally different if you are actually a patient there.

Things that we noticed from the tour that we liked better about Community:

Security system for baby, alarm put on them when they are born.

Rooms looked slightly nicer. Both are older hospitals though. I believe their rooms have showers in them. Parkview does not have this.

Other differences:  Parkview's Nicu is part of Choc. Parkview does not have a nursery and baby has to room in with you.

My suggestion would be to tour both and get a feel of each of them and then decide! HTH!

Thanks,  and thanks to the others who posted as well.  Sorry that I didn't check back on this until today.

We've now toured both, and the main reason I'm leaning towards Parkview is that Dads can stay in the room.  I am a first time mom and nervous about taking care of baby by myself that first night.  I am also going to try to go natural.  Good to hear that Parkview seems more open to this!
