calling all crockpot users!

I want to cook a chicken in my crockpot with some potatoes and carrots for tomorrows dinner. I'll get up early in the morning to get everything going and let it cook while I'm at work. Should I put the potatos and carrots on the bottom of the pot with the chicken on top? Or should I put the veggies on top of the chicken? I've never cooked a chicken and veggies in one at the same time, so I'm not sure which way to go. TIA!

Re: calling all crockpot users!

  • I think you put the veggies on the bottom. But I'm sure someone else can cofirm yay/nay on that
  • If you have a good crockpot, it doesn't really matter much, to be honest.

That said, I would probably put the potatoes on the bottom, chicken next, with carrots on top.

  • I hate to contradict Kelly (cuz I am usually in complete agreement with her), but if you put the potatoes on the bottom, you may end up with potato mush at the end of the day. I would recommend putting the carrots on the bottom, then chicken, then potatoes.  If they're in all day, the potatoes should be good to go and not be so mushy.
  • Thanks girls!

  • It actually doesnt matter unless the recipe states otherwise.  i usually just throw everything in there and stir it together before i pop the lid on.  Please share the recipe!

  • Well I ended up forgetting to buy carrots at the store lol so I just used potatos. I didn't follow a recipe, just kinda threw it together myself. I rubbed the chicken in butter and seasoned it with fresh ground pepper, salt, and thyme. Then I chunked up some russet potatos (with the skin on) seasoned them with the salt and pepper and put them on top. I turned it on low so it can cook all day while I'm at work.

  • Sounds so yummy! Can't wait to hear how it turns out.
