Casey Update - Laryngeal Paralysis

We saw the vet this morning and she confirmed the diagnosis.  She didn't even need to do a scope, and brought in the senior vet to confirm her thoughts.

We explained the entire situation, discussed the surgery option which was ruled out.  We are starting with 10 mg 2 times a day of pregnizone and we'll see if that helps any.

Really sadly, they basically said we just have to do our best to keep her unexcited (she's a lab on proin... god help us).  And keep her cool, as it seems the heat really sets off episode, but basically that's about all we can do for now.

I can tell DH is really sad about it.  He's had Casey for 11 of her 13 years, and well i don't even want to think those thoughts.

On the bright side everyone loved her and she was very happy to get out of the house.

  • I am so sorry. I hope everything works out. Sending you guys lots of T&Ps.

Does proin make dogs more active? I have been thinking of trying it for Beelz.

  • Thanks, Samara.

It was a godsend for Casey and totally has stopped her leaking, but one side effect is excitability.  Does it make her any more than normal? Maybe.  Who really knows.  I mean she is a lab, but she's also 13, so she's not running around like a crazy dog, but she has her moments for sure where if she weren't on the proin I don't think she would be as hyper.

Although it might affect a younger dog more.
