still so upset

We recently bought a new car and we were getting the old car ready to be sold. I had driven the old car to work yesterday with the intention of going to the car wash on my way home to get it washed but then I got out of work late and just went home.

I parked my car right in front of our garage and ran in to change and get the dog to take him to the park. In the 5 minutes I was in the house one of our neighbors backed into my car! His car was parked parallel to mine and apparently he didnt see a big black SUV behind him so the passenger side door will probably have to be replaced entirely.

I've already opened a claim with his insurance and I'm waiting for the claims guy to call me so I know insurance will take care of it but I'm stil so upset about this. Talk about bad timing when we were just going to list it this weekend once the car was all nice and clean. I'm so not in the mood to deal with all the hassle of getting a quote on the repairs and waiting to get it fixed. And I'm afraid the paint color on the door will be off from the rest of the car and no one will buy it. Everyones telling me it will be fine but its just so frustrating that I've never been in an accident or had any accidents with this car and now because of someone else's F up I have to deal with it.

Sorry just needed to vent =/

Re: still so upset

  • That sucks!  It will be fine.  D was hit twice within 2 weeks last month.  We had just got his car back and then the next day he got hit again. Once in the back and once on the front passenger side.  His car is black and looks better than it did before.

  • Ugh. Dealing with insurance companies suck.  I can't believeyour neighbor couldn't see your car.  I'm sure everything will be fine and you won't be able to tell the difference.  My car is dark blue and when I was rearended they had to replace my bumper,  they did a great job and you can't see a difference in the color.
  • Oh I would be upset too! What are the chances??? I'm sure it will get taken care of and look fine, but that sucks that you won't be able to list the car as soon as you wanted to.
  • I'm so sorry, Noush!  What horrible timing!  Actually, every accident is horrible timing, right?  I'm sure it will all turn out ok.  It just sucks that this is going to delay the selling of it.

What new car did you get?

  • Oh that totally sucks! I'm sorry you having to now deal with all of that. It's definitely not a fun process. Hopefully his insurance can get it fixed quickly.

  • So sorry this happened. What a hassel.

What insurance company will be repairing it? Make sure you go to a shop who guarantees the repairs. That way if the paint doesn't match for some random reason, it's guaranteed work and they will fix it.

This is what I do, so let me know if you need any help.

    His insurance is AAA.

A CW of mine has a brother that works in the service center for a Toyota dealership and I asked her to find out if there are any collision shops he'd recommend. She got me the name of the place the Toyota dealership uses for collisions so I'm going to check them out.

Thanks for the advise, I've never had to go through this so I'll let you know!

My mom said the same thing, I guess theres never a good time to have an accident.

We bought a Toyota Highlander. I had/have a RAV4 and we really liked it but with H's car being a 2 door and with very little storage space, we end up using my car a lot for stuff and we needed something a little bit bigger than my RAV4.

AAA is great to be insured with. If he disputes liability even a little, they may deny. Not sure, since it should be quite obvious here. Hopefully he won't given you are neighbors.

With my company, WE guarantee the repairs as long as you use a shop approved by us and I'm pretty sure AAA is the same. Make sure if it's not, the shop will guarantee the work though since you're going to pick your own. Also, don't be shy to ask for a rental if you need one.
