  • 1. The Tin Drum by G?nter Grass- Not an easy read but I am glad I read it.  I could relate to Grass' message of art's importance to society, although the story wasn't always easy to read.

    2. Generation X by Douglas Coupland- re-read of a book that I enjoyed in my 20s.

    3. Generation A by Douglas Coupland- the more I think about the book, the more I like Coupland's follow up to Gen X, but it's the overall themes that I get more than the

    4. Those Who Save Us by Jenna Blum- pleasantly surprised by this book.

    5.  Currently reading The Candy Bombers by Andrei Cherny

It's going pretty well. I will be honest, I hate having to read parenting books. They aren't enjoyable for me, but they are necessary. I plan on reading more of the Outlander series so I won't be reading this much every month. I hope to read 50 books(not including audio), but I don't think it's going to happen

    2014 Reading Goal: 85

  • I feel like I read a TON of fluff last month, but the heavier books I read were REALLY heavy, so I needed the balance.

1-4. All four in the Luxe series
    5. Can You Keep a Secret?
    6. Confessions of a Shopaholic
    7. Bergdorf Blondes
    8. You Can't Drink All Day if You Don't Start in the Morning
    9. Ella Minnow Pea (LOVED this book!)
    10. Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass (see what I mean about the heavier books requiring a mental respite after finishing?)
    11. A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man
    12. New Moon (ZOMG. So terrible. Meyer was 14 when she wrote this, right?)
    13. Christendom in Dublin (a travelogue by GK Chesterton about the Dublin Eucharistic Congress)
    14. Sanctuary (Faulkner)
    15. The Overnight Socialite
    16. Little Women (always a favorite reread)
    17. Company Aytch
    18. The War of the Worlds (glad I read it, but it was a mistake to pick it up on the heels of The Road)
    19. The Road (HATE. I want those hours of my life back.)
    20. A Good Man is Hard to Find and other Stories (my favorite O'Connor collection -- always a great reread)
    21. Watchmen
    22. Kristin Lavransdatter (definitely a new addition to my Top 5 Favorite Books EVER)

  • I am off to a pretty slow start.  I was in a major book rut for awhile and just now feel like I'm breaking out of it.  Also, I am less than 50 pages away from finishing my current book and really wanted to finish last night but couldn't do it!

As of right now, I'm not actively participating in any challenges.  I do want to read at least 50 books this year.

    I finished three in January:

The Abstinence Teacher by Tom Perrotta (liked it)

Bridge of Sighs by Richard Russo (it was okay)

The French Quarter by Herbert Asbury (it was okay)

  • I only read 2 books in January. Sad Work has been super crazy.

    1. This Lullaby - Sarah Dessen

    2. Remember Me? - Sophie Kinsella

I would have liked to read four, but no go. I am currently reading The Story Sisters by Alice Hoffman. It's okay. I am almost done and I really just want it to be over. It's a depressing novel. After I am done with that, I am moving on to The Gift by Cecelia Ahern. I am anxious to start reading this book.

  • The Help - Yes Yes

The Shadow of the Wind - Yes

    Commencement - No

  • I read:

    I am the MessengerYes

An Echo in the Bone YesNo

    It's slippery as waterweed.
  • I'm doing really well.  7.5 out of 75 down.  In January, I read:

    Uglies - Scott Westerfield
    Blue Moon - Alyson Noel
In the Woods - Tana French
    Shiver - Maggie Stiefvater
    Speak - Laurie Halse Anderson
    Catalyst - Laurie Halse Anderson
    Vampire Academy - Richelle Mead

And most of Cracked Up To Be - Courtney Summers.  I should finish that one today.
