Advice on decorating a bland office

My new office has no windows and is seriously...depressing. How can I spruse it up? I need ideas!

Re: Advice on decorating a bland office

  • my first thought was PLANTS!! but then duh, you said no windows.

ummm, fake plants? I know, they are a bit tacky. Can you get an interesting lamp? Lighting makes a lot of difference. How about a cool mirror? You could probably find a cheap one at Home Goods or Ikea or someplace similar.

I put up a lot of crap on my office walls. I have two bulletin boards full of family photos and my 4 month old's "art" projects from daycare. I hung up a map of the world and also have some wildlife posters. I realize this makes it look like a 5th grade classroom, but whatever. I also have a gigantic Office Space poster that says "work sucks". tee hee.

  • The first thing that popped into my head was one of those crazy multi-bulb floor lamps with different color lamp shades, etc.

What about a lot of art work, or maybe a few coordinating prints, that are big enough to cover the majority of one of your walls?

Or a dry-erase/cork board for one wall that has a really pretty colorful print.

    No windows...eeek!

  • I always love gerber daisies in a small vase. They really bring a lot of color to a room, especially one without windows. Are you allowed to hang pictures?? Our faculty room was very ehh. Someone went out and bought a bunch of beachy/tropical pictures and it really lightened up the room and made it a little nicer to look at.

  • My dad has an interior office (i.e. no windows either) and the only decoration he has is a big sign that says "all good work is done in spite of management."  He left for 10 months and when he came back (same office) the sign was still there, ha.

I would recommend pictures, pretty postcards maybe?

  • Plants make a huge difference and don't all need a window.  I've also hit Overstock before for inexpensive artwork and a small area rug -- made a huge difference in my office at my old firm.
