Where to get rid of old deck wood?

We tore down the pool portion of our deck today (YEAH!) but need somewhere to take the wood to get rid of it. Bulky item pickup doesn't come back around for another 2 months!

I put a post on freecycle but thought I would check here in case any of you had any ideas! Thanks!

  • If it's in reusable condition, you might contact Habitat for Humanity's ReStore to see if they'd accept it. Their guidelines for lumber donation are here.

  • You could also try craigslist. My sister had good luck getting rid of the old railroad ties that they had in their backyard - it seemed to work well for them.

  • I don't post much but if you happen to be in KC, MO they actually ended bimonthly bulky trash pickups as part of their budget cuts.  The good news though is that you can call and schedule a pick up so you wouldn't have to wait two months if it isn't reusable.  I'm in the same situation with some old fence wood, thanks for posting maybe I can donate it instead of trashing it.
