Re: Sushi Rec N. Austin

  • Sushi Kyu just opened in north Austin - across from where Northcross Mall used to be. It's still BYOB so you get good sushi and can bring your own (cheap) alcohol!

    Austin, TX, 78757
  • Musashino is fabulous. It's off of Mopac near Far West (above Chinatown).
  • I love Mushashino...however we won't eat there anymore. They were rated one of the top worst restaurants from the health scores last year.  I was so sad...but I am not eating raw fish at a place that is that dirty.

There is Sushi Sake in the Arboretum (near Manny Hattans).  On Parmer there is a little sushi place next to Bear Rock Cafe and Cool River that's pretty good.  (Sorry can't remember the name.)

  • There's sushi sake in the Gateway Center.  There's also a place on Parmer, west of Mopac, that people have been raving about.  If only DH would eat sushi again.  He watched a thing on discovery channel about sushi and it freaked out to never eat sushi again.  :(
  • I refuse to live in fear of sushi!

    I second Sushi Sake,

In Round Rock - Beluga and Orgami are decent (Sake is better)

Kobe!  At Anderson Mill and 183 is so yum!  DH highly recommends the Longhorn Roll!  We are actually going tonight! Yum!

  • We've had some of the worst service ever at Kobe.

DH and I love Musashino, but I didn't know about the health score.  Yikes!

There's a place in the complex with HEB on Braker that someone recommended a while ago, but I've never tried it.  I forget the name, but it's behind the Valero gas station.

  • Sushi Sake is good! I esp like their eel (unagi) if you're a fan. Yum, sushi sounds so good right now.

  • Kenobi is new, in the Arboretum.  (Great Hills & 183, near TGIFridays)

May be expensive, not sure.  Heard good things.

  • DH and I love Midori. It's reasonably priced, and they have some awesome rolls. We've been to Musashino, Kenichi, Uchi, etc., and we think that the quality of sushi at Midori is on par with these more upscale places, but for a lot less money. Midori is at 183 and Anderson Mill Rd on the northbound side next to where the Albertson's used to be.

  • I also recommend Sushi Sake.  DH loves it!  We go to the one in the Arboretum.
  • I looked Musashino up on the City of Austin restaurant scores site and it looks like they had some problems last spring, but their last two scores are good.
  • Not exactly North Austin..Smilebut if you feel like heading north to Georgetown, Hayashi Sushi in the Wolf Ranch center is very good. I go there when I visit my parents in RR. I live in south Austin, and we love Umi for a reasonably priced sushi meal.
  • I LOVE sushi Sake--order the spicy susan roll... it isn't on the menu, you have to know a out it.

Avoid that new place by TGIF off 183 near the Arboretum... it is horrible.

  • I second Kobe and Sushi Saki, I go to Kobe the most and love their rolls! They are to die for!
