What sort of LTC policy did you purchase for your rents?  I think that might be smart for me. I have a feeling I would be picking up the tab if anything were to happen, God forbid.

Re: ---Mrs. B ---

  • I bought a group policy through my previous employer!

I don't remember all the details, but I think it's something like:
$5k per parent per month for home healthcare
A yearly max of $300,000 for all other care

There are tons of plans out there -- the best price you'll get will be through a group plan so check with both of your employers to see if you've got one!  If they need a suggestion I like Unum and MetLife's plans -- it's usually fully employee funded, so it's no cost to them, they just have to make sure they advertise it will enough (and the importance of it) to employees to drum up enough buyers to keep your costs as low as possible.

I will warn you, it is NOT cheap.  But it's worth it.

  • Thanks for the info!! I think I'm going to seriously have to consider getting it.  I'll give a call to my friend in the biz (insurance, that is) and give HR a ring.
