Moving over from GP

I am so excited to finally be here! I got my bfp Friday night and I've taken 3 more tests since then because I'm a little shocked.

I don't want to jump the gun, but how far along were you when you told your parents/close family? I don't know if I can keep this in until I'm 8 or 12 weeks!

  • Congrats! So excited for you!

We told our family and a couple of close friends who knew we were trying at like 11 DPO. We told my brother and sister maybe a month after that? And friends, work, etc right around 13-14 weeks.

  • Congrats! We told parents pretty much right away, along with siblings, partially because of circumstances, partly because we would lean on them no matter what happened.

Close friends were told as the opportunity arose- mostly as we saw them.

We never announced on FB because we don't post a ton anyway. I think people tagged me in a couple of status updates, but it wasn't until the babies were here that I think I mentioned it myself- because we had so many people asking for updates, we posted when we were all home together.

  • If I'm remember right, I think we told parents and siblings around 6 weeks.  They knew about our losses and issues, so we wanted their support if anything were to happen.

  • We told family right away since they knew that we were doing IVF. Friends we told as it came up. A lot of them knew what we were going through as well.

  • Congrats!

We told people as it came-up. I told my parents as I was headed out of town for a weekend with some college friends around 7 weeks, because I know the second I didn't order beer with dinner my friends would figure me out and I wanted my mom and sister to know first.

after that we basically waited until 12 weeks to tell most people.

we also never announced anything on facebook, I have several close friends who've recently had losses and I know seeing pregos all over their facebook feed is hard for them, I also don't post much on facebook that is super personal...it's mostly photos of my dogs, garden, and promoting various community events. A few friends that live further away figured us out on pinterest.

I suppose we may post a bump photo once our Christmas tree is up (so like right before my due date) but I'm still way undecided on that.

  • Congrats!  We told our parents right away, but they also knew of our IVF cycle. My best friends also knew right away.  We told the rest of the world at 12 weeks, but many people (work friends, etc) were told as we saw them between weeks 6-12.

It really just comes down to what feels right for you.  I am a teacher, and had conferences at about 10 weeks. I wanted my parents to hear it before I told the kids, in case it brought up questions. I told the first set and then went HELL NO. NOT READY....and didn't tell anymore until I sent out an email the day I told the students. (Hindsight I should have waited another week, because we lost his twin and that was a horrible email to have to send to parents...)

We told my family right away, my husband waited a bit. I wanted support if something happened, which it did (twice), so it was important for my family to know. We told FB at 12 weeks the first time (because that was "safe"), but had to tell them at 23 weeks that she was gone because of her heart defects (4 years ago today). We didn't have a chance to tell FB for our second pregnancy because it was over at 8 weeks. For our son, we waited until we had our anatomy scan, fetal echo, everything before we told everyone else. Family and friends (and GP) knew right away. We couldn't have gone through all of that alone.
