Essential Oils

I am thinking of starting to use some essential oils. I have never used any of them before. I am wondering if anyone has any experience with doterra, young living or others. I have been doing some research online. I just wonder if the cost of doterra and young living oils over other brands is really worth it. I would love the hear both good and bad experience with the oils. TIA

My cousin sells DoTerra.  Personally, I am not a fan.  I have not really used either brand very much.  I have a bottle of ... Serenity I believe (a mixture for relaxation) that I got as a shower prize.  I have used it right before bed but I don't find that it helps me get to sleep easier as the woman who gave it to me claims it does.  I don't find that they help very much with ailments either.  I used to get headaches a lot and my grandmother gave me a bottle of an oil blend for headaches from Vemma/New Vision, a company she used to sell for that sold some oils as well as vitamins and stuff like that.  It sort of worked a couple times, if I remember correctly, but it didn't work very well and the last few times I've tried it, it didn't work at all.

I wouldn't say my experience has been "bad."  I think for somethings they can be helpful.  Like with massages or with uplifting your mood but for actual ailments, I don't think they're helpful.

The one thing I did like that DoTerra sold was a mixture called Deep Blue.  It helped for sore muscles and stuff, similar to Arnica cream.  They make it in an oil mixture as well as a lotion/cream.  That actually helped with soreness, and I'm thinking about getting some.

I have no idea if the cost is worth it over other brands.
  • I use a brand I bought off amazon for $16/6 oils. There are a few I use often, including peppermint, orange, lemon, lavender, and rosemary.

Anytime I feel nauseous, peppermint settles it almost immediately. I've also rubbed it on my chest when my acid reflux kicks up and it seems to help more so than my prescription.

Orange and lemon I use to flavor my water, never used it for anything more than that.

I use the rosemary and lavender as a homemade vics shower bomb for when I have a cold. The rosemary opens my sinuses right up and I just love the smell of lavender.

my husband swears by the tea tree oil and peppermint. He got really sick a few months ago and mixed those in with his tea and was better inside of 4 days.

All in all my experience has been great, but I don't pay high prices for them. The biggest reason you would want to pay a lot is to get the 'best part' of the plant. For example, true lavender oil is made from the actual petals, whereas cheaper stuff is made from multiple parts of the plant (fillers). When you are paying high prices you are paying for a truer form..I personally don't mind as I don't have allergies and mostly use them for the smell/topical treatment.
